Going into this show I felt very much out of my element. First off there was no useful information about the theater on the first page of google. All I had to go on was the address "1 University". So I find the college and none of the street signs are marked University. So I'm driving around the college and none of the signs say McKenzie Theater. I roll down my window and ask some kid for help who tells me "The theater is back there". I take a guess on which building by seeing people enter it and ask if this is the theater and find out it is. There is no sign or anything saying "McKenzie Theater" or "Evil Dead". My uneducated self is wondering if I am even welcome here it was so well hidden when a yuppie teacher tells me I'm not allowed to smoke on campus. I'm on such a different wave length then everyone else here I might as well be from another planet and have miscommunications about where I can put my coat where it won't get stained and how to find my seat.
On stage was a large painted Necronomicon. Kicking off the show a scary looking young woman walks out and screams. See tells us that on the back of the program are the theater rules. She then tears up the program and says "Take pictures, talk on your phone, upload videos of the show to youtube, just do whatever you want we don't give a fuck." I'm liking this show already and make mental note to get my camera out of the car at the intermission.
The musical numbers are all very good and I am super impressed that there is small band doing all the music live.
Like a Gwar show, blood sprays out into the audience during the dismemberments. In this show the blood is the consistency of candle wax. One dude got drenched at the end of the show. I was told since this was the last performance they were going to use up the rest of the blood. Here's is some of the damage I took:
