Andrew Mayne is a magician I had never heard of before (I think) but somehow I got on his mailing list and was sent an email letting me know his new TV magic show was premiering that night. You can get on his mailing list by clicking here. I don't have cable so I went to a friends house to check out the two back to back episodes. The premiss of the show is that Andrew Mayne is a magician and if you have someone who has done you wrong you can email him and he will get revenge or help teach this person a lesson. The first magic trick for someone reason I did not see correctly though my friend did and explained what happened. When the trick was replayed and done several more times I saw what it was and was very impressed. He reached his hand through a glass window and I have no idea how it was done. The second trick involved a bicycle and seemed heavily edited and did not impress me at all. At this point my first impression was that the show was no good but I decided to hang in there and not pass judgement until I had finished seeing both shows. What won me over though was Andrew Mayne's sarcastic personality. He is very funny and you can tell he loves magic and interacting with people. And I would say 70% of his magic is very strong. This is a very good ratio and I know I will continue tuning in for the of the show. Here's the thing: If you complain about how TV magic isn't real and is ruining magic in general you are a fag and your magic sucks. Because whether you like it or not TV magic is the hottest magic there is today. That's why everyone asks you if you can levitate or if you have seen Criss Angel. There are things you can do with TV magic you can't do in person but wouldn't a magician be a fool if he did not sometimes take advantage of this? Andrew Mayne now has the rest of his life booked as a pro magician and you are stuck doing magic tricks for your Mom. It's not anybodies fault but your own. Get your own TV show if you think you are good enough. Roku is the Wild West right now and anybody can get a show on TV. Stop complaining and do the work to get on TV yourself! The bottom line for me with TV magic is is it entertaining and fun and Don't Trust Andrew Mayne is both of those in abundance! Mormo has supported the punk rock and underground movie community for over ten years through print, video and merch. He suffers from psychic borderland syndrome and the only thing that will make him feel better is you signing up for his mailing list at www.mormozine.com
Saw Reza the illusionist in the next town over. He did a great job and really amazed me with a few of his tricks. Some tricks I thought I knew what was going to happen then was completely surprised! I have never studied any of the box illusions and they always blow me away every time! He was really good with kids and had two different 4 year olds on stage which I found impressive that he could handle that.
His marketing was pretty awesome. Going into the intermission he said he was going to give away two t-shirts, one to his favorite tweet he was tagged in and one to his favorite FB post he was tagged in. The whole crowd was glued to their phones. This was second show and it was almost sold out so I think his strategy probably worked. Keep an eye out for this guy, I think he is going to be a big star!! I subscribe to magician Paul Prater's newsletter and recently got a sneak peak at a upcoming product he will be releasing called Lips Don't Lie.
Mr. Prater specializes in bizarre magic and I enjoyed his podcast on the subject so much I wanted to purchase his book Maleficium. When it comes to magic I am a very careful shopper. It's pretty easy to buy everything that looks neat and I try and avoid this. I reached out to Mr. Prater to see if he would help me out if I had any questions about his book and he wrote a very helpful email back so I knew he was someone I could make a purchase from and trust. I bought the book and loved it and it was a wonderful value! Lips Don't Lie is new material about how to do a special kind of reading. This particular style of reading is for women (or transvestites but lets not go there!). Let me tell you, if your single guy this system will be absolutely deadly!! All the mechanics are there to make the ladies swoon plus you can leave them your number or get their number! This system is so powerful Mr. Prater met his lovely girlfriend with it! The spoken for gentleman could also have flirty fun with it as well of course. This is def going into my arsenal the next time I hit the bars! Mr. Prater said no money was necessary in exchange for this wonderful .pdf but I am so happy with it I will be sending him something via paypal. I will say though that I think this material would be much more valuable as a video product. A simple webcam video explaining the system or even better would be Mr. Prater in the field performing this reading live. You definitely want to get on his mailing list at paulprater.com so you can get first dibs on his new stuff. Paul Prater is one of the best thinkers in the bizarre magic community for sure! Most magicians dream about one day visiting the Magic Castle but Poppi is so good at magic he works at the Magic Castle! I was blown away when I watched this video! He is a total master of sleight of hand! David Blaine is one of my favorite all time magicians and Poppi does tricks you might expect from David Blaine one one ups them and makes them even better.
There is one trick in this video involving a window that must be an original creation because I have never seen a trick done this way before. Another thing I really like about Poppi is that he comes off as a very smooth, laid back guy and someone you wanna get to know and hang out with some time. I think this is very important for a magician. It makes people want to see more of of your magic. Subscribe to Poppi's youtube channel here so you can see all his latest videos! I met the great magician J4ckTricks recently on Twitter. He has an awesome youtube channel with trick performances, tutorials and contests. You will definitely want to subscribe to his channel so you keep up to date anThe video above was my favorite. J4ck clearly shows for jacks then magically and without any suspicious moves all the jacks turn into aces!! This really blows my mind!
I met this great young magician who goes by the name Oblivious To Magic on Twitter and Facebook. In the video above he does an awesome magic trick called Dresscode. I checked out his youtube channel and there are also some very helpful tutorials about learning magic tricks. He is very friendly and wants to help out so if you want to know how to do certain magic tricks you can ask him to do a video for you.
This is a classic freak show circus banner. There was even a movie called "Frog Princess And The Strange Circus" back in the 60's. This is a replica but wouldn't it look lovely on your wall? Starting bid only .99 cents! Click here to bid! Wow my mind reels thinking about what this act must entail? Their is beautiful women in the poster so I bet it was exciting! Maybe some kind of "wild woman" type of a thing? Anyways this banner is lovely and the starting bid is only .99 cents! Click here to bid!
I did this trick video for a friend on the sidewalk performers forum. I really dig chalk talk. It's that quality I strive for where people are left wondering "Is that even magic?" LOL! One day I want to put together an entire act I can do with just a dry erase board and marker. I think this sort of act could be valuable if I was ever in a jam.
