The Primates are an Italian punk band. I guess Italy is having a crisis right now and these guys are having a hard time finding jobs, record labels and gigs. The got a DIY full length album called Breakfast At Primates you can listen to here. It's really high energy fast paced punk rock with awesome vocals. I really dig the world scene. It's like, everybody around here thinks I'm an asshole but there is rad punk bands in Italy so fuck it, LOL! Also check out their music video!

This is an e-book available on amazon.com from David Anthony of couchcutter.com. I really enjoyed reading his rants about how much the indie film making scene sucks so I decided to purchase this book (my first kindle e-book purchase). This book not only outlines the problems with the indie film industry but talks about how you can have a career making movies. Topics covered are getting your script, dealing with actors, marketing and a guideline for how your company should operate. I was very inspired by this book and am working towards my next film already tonight.
I will say though that the book didn't cover some of the secret sauce I was expecting. It tells you what you to do to be a successful film maker but doesn't exactly say what to do with the films you make. I was expecting some information about digital distribution through amazon, blip.tv, roku and other services you can get a few pennies through. He does say the best money making ideas aren't in this book and are already in your head and he is right about this. I already know how I plan to distribute and monetize so I didn't need that information anyway. I think he is wrong about twitter though. He says something like "Don't cheat on twitter. When we see someone who follows 1,200 people and has 1000 followers we know what's up." It's the opposite for me. When I see some small time player who has 1,200 followers and only follows 120 people I think, "Wow, what a douche. This guy could care less about his fans." I use techniques to get followers and when I get a person following me who follows 134 people and has 12 followers I think I just struck gold! I highly recommend this book though if you want to have a career making movies. It's very well written and a great value! Many people think punk rock is popular bands you can see on MTV or buy their t-shirts and CD's at the mall at shops like Hot Topic or Spenser's. Other people think punk rock is something that happened a long time ago with bands like Black Flag, Dead Kennedys and The Sex Pistols. What many people don't know is that most big cities have a vibrant, active punk community with exciting live concerts many nights of the week. Chicago is of these cities and I will tell you all about it.
Let me take a moment to describe the benefits of becoming an active member of the punk community on the local level. When you hear a band perform live and loud they will sound just as good as mainstream bands. You can have just as much fun at a small show as you can at an arena show for a fraction of the ticket price. The average admission for a hometown show is five dollars or under. After the band performs their set you can thank them and shake their hand, maybe even buy them a beer. Independent bands need your support and will be happy to have you as a new fan. How cool would it be to have real rock stars as friends? If you really want to get involved you could take it a step further and become a working member of your punk scene. There is always a need for people to hang posters, hand out flyers, make zines, videotape shows, make merchandise and promote. Creative and energetic people can thrive in the punk world. In Chicago there are many great places to see punk shows. Among the best are Town Hall, Ultra Lounge, Cobra Lounge, Bottom Lounge, The Mutiny, Double Door, Subterranean, Live Wire, and Liar's Club. A great all ages club is Reggie's. It's a perfect place for young people to go to have a fun and safe time. When you go to these clubs take a look on the walls. You will see posters for upcoming concerts and can plan accordingly. In my opinion, the best punk bands to see in Chicago are The Baby Magic, Eske, Tras De Nada, I Hate People, The Bumpus Hounds, Sex Bunker and Modern Day Rippers. They all put on great shows that will get your blood pumping and make you want to mosh. My personal favorite is Adam Rebelius, Chicago's one man punk rock band. Even though there is only one member, his songs sound full and he has a great voice. Adam Rebelius should be your first priority to see live as you explore the Chicago scene. Here's is what has to say about his band: "I get up on stage w/my guitar and play with myself. I'd form a band if I could find the right people, but nobody is worthy enough to be in a band with me. My standards are HIGH, and I demand nothing less than perfection, and Chicago is holding out on me! Most people who see me live, their first reaction is "Dude! You gotta get a band together!" but NOBODY wants to take being in a band SERIOUSLY! I WANT to be a RICH AND FAMOUS ROCK AND ROLL STAR, and all the other so called "Musicians" in this town just want to "Jam out, m-a-a-a-n!" (whatever that means) If people aren't ready to be so rich and famous that GREEN DAY is opening for them, then they need not apply! (YES! I'M SERIOUS AS A HEART ATTACK!)". Now you know all about the Chicago punk scene. Go out and make wonderful new friends and have the time of your life. While you're at it, when you see a band you like pick up a CD or t-shirt. Be sure and get them autographed because who knows, it could be a collectors item some day! This is my favorite episode of the first season. Great bands and it was super scandalous too! I had footage of the fight that broke out and no one wanted it to go public. I snuck the audio of the fight into the episode though. Enjoy!
Spooky Town is a movie released by Full Moon's children's label Moonbeam. I rented it at Redbox. It's the story of a teenage boy and his two younger siblings who are having a party while their parents are out of town. The parents call and tell them pulled over into a town called Longhand and then they never hear from them again. The cops (as usual) are ineffective so the kids decide to find their parents on their own.
An Old Native American gives the instructions on how to get to Longhand and what not to do their. See Longhand is a ghost town that just disappeared hundreds of years ago. The kids get there and all kinds of creepy and bizarre stuff happens as they attempt to find and rescue their parents. As with most Moonbeam movies this one is completely creative and over the top. It builds it's own unique mythology and there is great creatures and gallons of slime. It's a re-release of a 90's film so it is slightly dated such as the large phones the family uses. Over all it's a super fun sci-fi action movie and I really enjoyed it. My only gripe is a pet peeve of mine where another film is referenced to forward the plot. I could overlook this because the rest of the movie is so original. Multiple spooky Halloween superstitions. Are you superstitious? How do you celebrate Halloween?
http://youtu.be/u_av0LuouNY Everybody loves a good ghost story. This video will give you tips about to tell a really scary one.
http://youtu.be/dxUD-IZHdvY I was surfing around when I found out about this amazing creature, the horror frog (pictured above). This little guy when threatened breaks the bones in his feat so the broken bones protrude from his skin and become sharp points he can fight with to defend himself! How crazy is that?! A little more surfing and I found this short horror film "Frog Zombie". Some of the scenes are a little monotonous but the creature looks good and the camera effects work pretty well. Check it out! Brentwood $10 Got this for X-mas back in 2002. Had saw it on some site online and was interested in a few of the films on it. So when my Aunt the midget was asking what I wanted for X-mas I mentioned it to her. I figured at a buck a film it had to worth the price. Kill Baby Kill-85 minutes This is a really fun piece of mid 60s Euro-horror from Mario Bava. There is better copies out there now. But the print used on this doesn't look too bad. Devil's Nightmare-95 minutes This is an early 70s Euro-Horror film. And it is really good. What I love is how it is obvious Brentwood used a Redemption laser disc/vhs for the master. Cause they left on the introduction by Ellien Daily. Still the print looks really good. And this is a nice way to introduce someone to Euro-horror. God told me to-91 minutes A mid 70s Larry Cohen forgotten gem. A series of murders are happening. And when the cops catch the suspects they all say their motive was "God told me to". Really fun film. Pieces-90 minutes What can be said about this batshit insane film. It has it all gore, rampart nudity and one of the craziest endings I have seen in a horror film. Loved it so much I ended up tracking down the great dvd version Grindhouse Releasing put out. Good against Evil-90 minutes Pretty boring made for tv film. Not worth watching really. Kiss me Kill me-90 minutes This is a 70s Italian film based on a comic. Also known as Baba Yaga it is worth at least one viewing. But is nothing special. Satan's School for girls-75 minutes This 70s made for TV film is mostly remembered now for it's cast. That has two future Charlies Angels stars. Not bad for a made for TV film. The Night Evelyn came out of the grave-103 minutes A early 70s Euro-horror. But this print is horribly edited. Worth tracking down the uncut version. Cathy's Curse-88 minutes This is a mid 70s Canadian made Exorcist rip off. The print used was ripped from a Sinister Cinema VHS and looks like shit. Skip it. The Ghost-97 minutes Another Euro-Horror and this one isn't too bad. Has Barbara Steele so that helps out. Now this is out of print and I have no clue how much used copies sell for. But it does have 4 really good films. And 3 average films. So if you can find it for $10 or under grab a copy. Ashmore Estate is a very haunted place! Would you stay in a haunted house? Are you afraid of ghosts?
