Skinheads are a subculture that started in the sixties and is still around today. I'm no expert on the subject and am writing this article to try and wrap my head around the phenomenon. Skinheads are basically kissing cousins with punk rockers, often the two groups are used in the same sentence. The music is very similar as well as some of the fashion. This is why I want to feel the right way about skinheads. I will start by describing my limited experience, what I've heard and my thoughts.
Here's a video of Orange County punk band Damaged performing at Giovanni's Pizza in Fullerton CA. They've been playing shows all over Southern California and have been well received. They formed less then a year ago and are working on their first EP. I really would like to check out the Orange Counties punk scene as I was born in Anaheim. The only show I've been to in Anaheim was a goth show. There was this goth band playing and I was trying to dance and just when I would start to get the groove the band would make an awful high pitched noise and mess it up. I told this girl there I thought the band sucked and she said her boyfriend was the lead singer. Anyways Damaged sound good and look cool. Check them out!
Holy Madness is a horror punk band from Germany playing fast, dark intensive songs. I always enjoys bands who wear costume and make up on stage. It just makes the show more fun. You can hear their spooky German language songs on their facebook page:
Zipperfish is an internet 2 piece punk band from the UK. The have a full length album called "Punk By The Numbers" and you download songs off it for free. I think an internet band is a really interesting concept I'd like to hear more about. I got a soft spot for UK punk bands as The Great Rock N' Roll Swindle movie is what got me into punk rock in the first place. Check out Zipperfish's songs for sure because they are really good!
This punk band from Greensboro NC are some of the biggest degenerate scumbags I have seen in a long time!! They cover what I consider to be the evilest songs ever written which you can hear on their reverbnation page. Gross!!!
Here's the preview to Pot Zombie 2: Less Plot, More Pot. Part one was released by Troma and was a pretty funny movie. I'm looking forward to this one!
The Crash Landings are a new punk group from the UK. They started the band, wrote and recorded a demo song, made an online social network presence and have all ready sold multiple copies of there first song on I-tunes...ALL IN ONE WEEK!!! That's how you do it!! The song as well as the biz strategy remind me a lot of the Sex Pistols which is awesome. You can find their song on their FB page.
Barb Wire Dolls is a political punk band originally from Greece. They moved to LA and have taken the world by storm, opening for great punk bands, two US tours, and releasing an album last year called "Split". This video is a direction I would like my art to go in. Punk fetish. There's an audience that has good jobs and money that would never dress up and mess up but still gets turned on by punk fashion and mystique. Tapping into this market could put money into ones wallet as well as toilet!!
Andy Copp was a independent filmmaker, writer and supporter of the underground art scene. He committed suicide a few days ago. Here is a bio he wrote for himself in 2006.
Sometimes when I'm bored I go to these websites called traffic exchanges. Basically you look at other peoples websites and in return someone looks at your website. It's really garbage traffic and I lost my google adsense account and my youtube partnership because of traffic exchanges but the theory is they improve your ranking with the extra visitors. So I heard trafficdynamite.com was a good traffic exchange so I signed up. Spent about half an hour there to see how it worked out. I got a bunch of junk mail from them and a few weeks later I got an email asking how trafficdynamite.com was working out for me. I replied I only got one visitor so it was working out too good. The owner of trafficdynamite.com replied:
