Found this wonderful music video on the punkvert.tv website. Really love the style of the video, it's sexy and chaotic and really captures the excitement of the band. I'd love to see Anarchistwood live! The music is really unique and all over the place. Very cool!
I'm a big fan of Country Punk and also a big fan of world punk so when I heard about this band I had to check out there new EP "Garage Sessions". It's a really good down and dirty mix of rockabilly and punk with a country twang on the guitar. Really dig it! Find them on Facebook here. Listen to the EP here.
I had been receiving and reviewing this dudes zines and comix for a little while when he sent me a note saying he had a band and they had a new album on cassette for 3 bucks. Dude (poor name memory) is so cool and just a guy a living the zinester dream so I was stoked to send him the cash and check out his band. Cassettes are good because that's what I got in my car.
The cassette is pretty slick and well put together. The music is sloppy, chaotic and like nothing I have ever heard before. When I listen to it driving around in my car I feel like it's doomsday and the world is ending or something. Unstructured instruments and various noises like a typewriter and bicycle bell. The singer sounds like a mumbling schizophrenic. This music sounds very new and exciting! As soon as I get a few bucks I'm gonna mail off for more cassettes from this label! Send 3 bucks to: Hot & Ready Records 2700 White Ave. 3 Chico, Ca 95973 USA Dirty Kid Discount is an eight (!) piece folk punk band from the Pacific North West. Saw them when I was at the Shakedown Bar in San Diego. It was cool because the bar was practically empty but these guys kinda filled up the bar with themselves! There was some sound issues, I think the sound guy was stressed plugging everyone in. They sound really good though and were totally fun. Gotta love any band with an accordion, it's like my favorite instrument! They recently got a shout out from Operation Ivy's FB page.
Animal Train is a super cool, super friendly punk band from Austin Texas. Really enjoyed seeing them live so when they asked me to review their EP I was stoked! It's on bandcamp and you can listen to it here.
The first thing that crosses my mind is I would really like to know the meaning behind the EP's title. The older I get the more I just wanna make money and in my money grubbing manner, "commercial" is the highest compliment I can give. I say "Your work looks very commercial." meaning they could possibly get some money there. I wrote about a post asking "Can you love punk and money at the same time?" here. The music on this album is awesome. It's my favorite kind of punk, raw and aggressive rock and roll. Really strong vocals kinda like a punk Janis Joplin or something. The drums and guitars are played with precision but still chaotic enough to make the music fresh and exciting. What really stands out for me are the intelligent and positive lyrics talking about the importance of the D.I.Y. reality. Def check this album out! Hot Dog Sandwich is a band that has been around for many years. At one time they had four members but now they have two, husband and wife. They also run a comic book and record store in Boise which is where this video was shot. I told them I could help them build a website. Really cool people and awesome band!
Ben The Drunken Poet reads a punk rock poem in honor of Jimmy Sinn's birthday.
Recently went to Boise to go to Jimmy Sinn's birthday show. It was at Hot Dog Headquarters which is an awesome comics and collectables store. Jerkwadz played and here is video of a new song. Jerkwadz have lost a drummer and gained an extra guitar player since I saw them last. The guitar player is Brandon from the band Position High which is also a cool band and Mormo supporter. I got to catch up with Jimmy Sinn and he said he was interested in doing a new Jerkwadz DVD so that may mean work for me in the future! Also Jimmy offered to do an evil acoustic theme song for Mormo so I was super stoked about that. Keep an eye on this blog for for more videos from this show coming soon!
The Yucks were featured in my documentary "Punk Vs Punk" plus a few of my music videos. Big fan! Roland Bluntz joined the band and is making awesome music videos for them now. Here is a rough cut video of a song off the upcoming Yucks album. It's an ode to Courtney Bowles and all lost friends who will never be forgotten.
