Bird Shit #3 is a zine by Robin Yourgrave from Portland Oregon. I ordered it off of Etsy. This is a personal zine about leaving the midwest to move to the coast. Reading it made me look back at my resentments I had towards "transients" my last few years living in San Diego.
The show I was at where the singers asked how many people were born and raised in San Diego and I was the only who raised my hand. The conversations that used to piss me off so much that went: "Where are you from?" "I got an an apartment a few miles up the street" "No, where are you originally from?" "I'm from HERE mother fucker!!". This zine shows me how hard it is to leave your home and family and that transplants are just mostly cool people looking for a better life.
This zine is very well written and has good photos. The plain formatting kinda turned me off as I prefer a sloppier cut and paste style aesthetic. There were some typos and grammar mistakes though that made up for it. I'm serious, it's the little mistakes that I love about zines. Shows me I'm looking at the work of an individual not a corporation. I really enjoyed this zine and if I get some money I may order the back issues to find out what caused the author to decide to move in the first place.
