Got the new Throat Culture zine in the mail today. It's got movie and music reviews along with some lists and other stuff. There are two awesome movie reviews for "The Shield Around The K: The Story Of K Records" and "Jandek On Corwood". I want to see both these movies real bad!! The music reviews all sound great as well. Robert has a neat reviewing style where it's like a friend telling you about cool stuff and not pretentious at all. I appreciate it. I sent in 4$ to get the new issue of Goofbook which is a comix zine and to get a tape from author Robert's band. I guess tapes are making a comeback which is good because I still have a tape player in my car! Send a dollar to:

Lumpen Proletariat #5 is a comics zine by Australian Pat Grant. The main story is about a share house where people rent a room and when they move out they leave assorted junk behind. The house is filled with decades of peoples pictures and crap. There's a section about how to make a profit at a zine fair and a series of comic strips called Spit On The Band. The guys art is really unique and
Mission Of Tekne is a Sci-Fi short story zine by Maggie Macdonald. Printed on yellow paper with lots of illustrations and photo collages through out. It's the story of a stuck up morally challenged college girl living in the futuristic (?) UKA, which is just one huge city coast to coast. She runs out of money and has series of misadventures. Reminded me a lot of the writing of Anthony Burgess. Really enjoyed this zine. You can download a digital copy for free here.
This is a very nice looking zine with very sick, sad newspaper clippings from the world. Really crazy stuff you won't believe actually happened! One page had little comic drawings of the news stories and this was my favorite part. Extra copies & back issues available for 1$, stamps (AUS), trade, friendly letter, or unusual/grotesque clippings.
Stratu PO BOX 35 Marrickville, NSW 2204 Australia Thanks to Sid Clark for sending me this!! Oblast #2 is a Canadian zine about a long bike trip to a zine convention. Thanks to my friend Sid Clark for sending this. The author rides his bike for the super long trip and finds places to stop and stay the night on a couch surfing website, meeting many interesting people along the way. The way the world is right now it actually makes sense to just travel and couch surf and be a part of non-profit events. Why not? I want to get more bicycle zines because I think they will sell in my bookstore.
http://365zines.blogspot.com/ Under Da Black Flag is the official zine of Pyrate Punx. It opens with a thoughtful editorial about how social media is harming local scenes. There are scene reports from many Pyrate chapters. These are super useful to musicians and punks because they list all the venues the chapter can book shows at. There are some band interviews and an article about how to change your own oil. It's pretty sad how many obituaries are in this zine but it's a nice tribute. Also I bought a full page ad in this issue. It's an interview I will publish here soon. For information about ordering copies email: [email protected]
I read a fascinating column about post-punk in the newest issue of MMR and contacted the author to tell him how much I enjoyed it. He told me had a zine so I paypal'd it up and now here it is!! It's big in size, I think this is what's called digest size? My hats off to Sam Lefebvre for pulling off a zine this size! It's a cut and paste aesthetic which is what I always prefer. Collages through out of vintage photographs which is kinda weird but cool. I wish I could write half as smart about punk as this guy! Damn!! Really unique and fun to read reviews plus outside of the box interviews that are a great change of pace from the standard stuff. One band makes a list of fave songs and I youtubed them and they were all good and new to me. The article I most enjoyed compared punk the apocalypse. The newest issue comes with a record so if you spin pick that one up for sure! Order his zine here:
http://degenerateephemera.blogspot.com/ I got these zines from R.L. Wallace in trade for my zines. He first sent an awesome mini comic called Trash Cat. I really liked this comic because I am totally into minimalistic comic strips. He asked me if I had any pen pals so he is very friendly.
A super surreal short story by Henri Frelon. This is the first time the French author has been translated into English so if you are into surreal fiction I would recommend picking this up. Very strange!! Thanks to Sid Clark for mailing this to me!
Send a few bucks to: Readers Digress! c/o 15 Dartington Walk Leigham Plymouth Devon PL6 8QA UK My paper zine got reviewed in a few zines. A few prisoners read the reviews and sent me letters requesting free copies of my zine. It's tradition to give free zines to prisoners when asked. I try and included a positive letter about how I overcame drug addiction. So I got a letter back thanking me and including this art. Dude has a year left to go inside. If you would like to send him zines, flyers or letters contact me through this sites contact page and I will email you his address.
