Can a nerd be in a relationship with a punk? I think they can! All kinds of people can thrive in the punk scene. As long as you are having fun you will fit in at a punk show.
Dungeons And Dragons is a game I have had fun with over the years. I played it when I was a kid and I usually played a thief or a magic user. When I played D&D it was a table top game where I made a character on a piece of paper. To perform skills and fight I rolled different kinds of dice. Most of the time me and my friends would be on an adventure and team up to fight monsters and dragons and get lots of gold and gems. Later I played online role playing games like Everquest and Conan. These are a lot of fun too! What's great about this is that I could play a game with a friend in another state and chat while we played. I'd love to play this game with you so just click one of the banners then get in touch with me so we can meet online. Should be awesome and it's free so why not?!
Years ago, when I lived in the big city, I had no desire to be in a committed relationship. So many beautiful girls everywhere so I chose to strictly date. And I had some hot dates too let me tell you!! When I moved to a small town like 7 years ago I figured I would settle down, get married and start a family. I never got the chance though. Women either viewed me as a cigarette machine or wanted nothing to do with me. Women here just don't date! How people hook up I am not exactly sure? I am guessing they "hang out" or are "just friends" until they start fucking. This kind of syntax I consider dishonest, call a date a date! So what is a date? My definition is two single people sharing a meal and entertainment. Sex is on the table but not necessary and intimacy is never owed. No commitment and free to see other people. Why would anybody want to this?! Here is some reasons: 1: Everybody is worth a few hours. Somebody might not be a dreamboat or your ideal partner but surely it won't kill you to spend part of an evening with them. Talk to them a little and maybe there is more to them then you initially saw. Take me for example, there are multiple reasons why you don't want to be in a committed relationship with me. I'm old, fat, poor, pathetic, limp dicked, limp wristed, spooky as hell etc. etc. But a couple times a month I can scrape up enough cash for two to go out to eat and catch a movie. Could be fun? I got qualities too, I promise!! 2. Leverage If you're a girl and your date takes you to Mickie D's, you can say "Gee, my other dates usually take me to nicer places than this..." If you are a guy and you try and touch her boobs but she shoots you down you can say "Gee, my other dates usually suck dick on the third date..." By letting people know they aren't the only person you are seeing you can drop the hint they better step up their game is they want to get serious. 3. Safety (for the ladies) You may think "In this violence and rape obsessed culture, dating is too risky!" Actually, dating can be much safer! If someone gets creepy or weird, you got someone to call and take care of the situation. Even a warning that you are seeing someone else could shut down a creeper. Also you can go to social environments and meet and check out other people while someone has your back and will make sure you get home safe. 4. Networking So maybe the whole relationship thing is never going to happen and you both know it. You both got friends and connections so you could always pass each other off to someone else. 5. Fun Hey, fuck it! You got out of the house and did something! That's got to be worth something! So in conclusion, maybe I would have been better off adapting to local customs? I feel the tradition of dating is worth fighting for though, so here is my manifesto! Have fun, but not TOO MUCH FUN!!!
Got to catch this movie on the big screen at my local art guilds movie night. Felt weird to see a movie that plays out like a big budget indie quirky comedy in the middle of blockbuster season!
The Monuments Men tells the story of artists, art dealers and art historians who are drafted to recover important works of art stolen by the Nazi's in WW2. It has a great cast and beautiful locations but ultimately for me was a missed opportunity to tell an important story. A problem for me was that most of the scenes in this film have a cutesie comedic tone. The movie is based off of real life war heros and I find it disrespectful to make light of such a serious situation. It didn't have to be a horrors of war melodrama but I would have liked to see more of the trials of middle aged non-soldiers dealing with combat. Second, the pacing was very bad. Half the time I didn't even know what the team was trying to do and it seemed as if they were just farting around. On the up side this movie did inspire me to get more involved with the art scene as most art guild movie nights do. Often through out the run time I was mentally planning on searching "How to be an art dealer" on youtube when I got home. 2 out of 5. A meme is a picture with words. You probably seen hundreds of them on Facebook. This video will shoe you how to make your own!
A question I see a lot is "What band is the most punk?". Is it old classic bands from the late 70's and 80's? Is it the famous Hot Topic bands who have made a lot of money and are very popular? There is also a lot of discussion about whether or not a certain band is punk or not.
These kinds of arguments only split up the community and I believe the punk rock scene should be all inclusive and that there is room for everybody of all different musical tastes. In my humble opinion the most punk band there is is the band playing a show nearest you and next! The true magic of the punk rock experience is the live show. The interaction between the musicians on stage and the fans watching and dancing to the music. The relationships built at the live venue is the real value. There is a crazy energy shared between everyone in attendance that can not be felt on a recorded album. By all means go and see the bigger than life touring mega bands but also enjoy your local bands and give them them the same level of support that you give the super stars! Because while we all love the classic established bands and the big hit radio play legends, can you build a real relationship with these people? Can you drink beers or smoke weed with them, drop in on their practices or even work for them? It is vital to support touring bands! Your financial support will help them get the gas to their next gig as well as food and expenses. Supporting local bands could lead to some amazing friendships that could improve the life of everyone involved! So if you want to find some REAL punk rock, go out and find a show and get involved! Buy a t-shirt or an album and network and build lasting relationships. I guarantee you will have the time of your life!! |
